Install Kioku

How to get Kioku running on your platform.

Download the latest release from the Releases page, then follow the steps for your operating system below. Each release attaches one set of files per platform; pick the file that matches your hardware.

macOS

Kioku ships a .dmg for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Your Mac	Download
Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)	Kioku-<version>-mac-arm64.dmg
Intel	Kioku-<version>-mac-x64.dmg

Caution

Pick the right file. The arm64 build does not run on Intel Macs. The x64 build runs on Apple Silicon through Rosetta, but it runs slower than the native arm64 build.

Steps:

1. Download the .dmg for your hardware.
2. Double-click the .dmg to mount it.
3. Drag Kioku into the Applications folder.
4. Eject the mounted disk image.
5. Launch Kioku from Applications.

Note

If macOS blocks the first launch, right-click the app and select Open to continue.

You can also install from Kioku-<version>-mac-arm64.zip or Kioku-<version>-mac-x64.zip by unzipping and moving Kioku into Applications, but the .dmg is the intended download.

Windows

Kioku ships an NSIS installer and a portable .zip for x64.

Format	Download	How to run
Installer	Kioku-<version>-x64.exe	Run the installer.
Portable	Kioku-<version>-x64.zip	Extract anywhere, then run Kioku.exe.

Caution

On first launch, Windows SmartScreen may show a “Windows protected your PC” warning. Select More info, then Run anyway to continue.

x64 is the only Windows build. There is no native arm64 artifact, so ARM Windows machines run the x64 build under emulation.

Linux

Kioku ships an AppImage and a Debian package for x86_64.

AppImage

1. Download Kioku-<version>-x86_64.AppImage.

2. Make it executable:

   chmod +x Kioku-*.AppImage

3. Run it:

   ./Kioku-*.AppImage

You do not need to install it.

Debian / Ubuntu (.deb)

Download Kioku-<version>-amd64.deb, then install it:

sudo apt install ./Kioku-*.deb

This adds Kioku to your application menu.
