Reset or uninstall Kioku
Kioku keeps everything on your computer. Uninstalling removes the app but not your data, so you can reinstall and carry on where you left off. To start over, or to leave nothing behind, delete Kioku’s folders as well.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- Quit Kioku first. On macOS, choose Kioku → Quit Kioku (closing the window leaves it running). On Windows and Linux, closing the window quits it. Deleting files while Kioku is open leaves it writing to files that are gone.
- Want to keep anything? Copy Kioku’s data folder (listed below for each system) somewhere safe first. Putting the folder back restores everything: your Collections, their media, the automatic backups and your settings. To keep a single Collection instead, see Back up & export.
- Deleting these folders can’t be undone, and it deletes Kioku’s automatic backups too.
Start over
Section titled “Start over”Delete Kioku’s data folder, the whole folder. The next time you open Kioku it starts as it did on the first day: the license, the tour and the analytics question, in a new Default Collection.
- Quit Kioku.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder…, enter
~/Library/Application Support/, and move the Kioku folder to the Trash.
Or in Terminal:
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/KiokuWindows
Section titled “Windows”- Close Kioku.
- Press Windows + R, enter
%APPDATA%, and delete the Kioku folder.
Or in PowerShell:
Remove-Item -Recurse -Force "$env:APPDATA\Kioku"Close Kioku, then:
rm -rf "${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-$HOME/.config}/Kioku"Uninstall and remove everything
Section titled “Uninstall and remove everything”Removing the app doesn’t remove your data. To leave nothing behind, uninstall Kioku and then delete the folders listed for your system.
- Quit Kioku, then drag Kioku from Applications to the Trash.
- Delete whichever of these exist:
| Path | What it holds |
|---|---|
~/Library/Application Support/Kioku |

Logs |
~/Library/Caches/kioku-updater |

Section titled “Windows”- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Kioku, and choose Uninstall. This removes the app but not your data.
- Delete these two folders:
| Path | What it holds |
|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Kioku |
Your Collections, media, backups, settings and logs |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\kioku-updater |
Downloaded updates |
Or in PowerShell:
Remove-Item -Recurse -Force "$env:APPDATA\Kioku", "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\kioku-updater"- Remove the app. For the AppImage, delete the
.AppImagefile. For the.debpackage, runsudo apt remove kioku. - Delete the data and the downloaded updates:
rm -rf "${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-$HOME/.config}/Kioku" \ "${XDG_CACHE_HOME:-$HOME/.cache}/kioku-updater"What isn’t on your computer
Section titled “What isn’t on your computer”- Analytics. If you turned analytics on, the anonymous signals already sent stay with TelemetryDeck. They’re tied to a random install ID kept in Kioku’s data folder, so a reset makes a new one, and new signals can’t be linked to the old ones. See Privacy.
